Genetic Detectives Summer School

Description

Encouraging students from under-represented groups to consider progressing on to university study through immersive academic and social experiences. Students will work with current Science student mentors and take part in lots of different hands-on activities during the Summer School. Based in the Genetics labs they will experience how to use specialist equipment such as micro pipettes and learn about DNA sequencing, developing their problem solving and logic skills. In small groups they will take part in a debate on ethics, developing their communication, team working and presentation skills. Students will also stay with us overnight each night and everyone will take part in a busy schedule of social activities with the student mentors, giving them the opportunity to find out what it is like studying and living at university.
