SportMAD (Making a Difference) is a coaching project that seeks to harness the enthusiasm, coaching/ leadership skills and ambassadorial qualities of Loughborough students to inspire young people into Higher Education and sport. The scheme involves deploying trained student sports coaches into Leicester and Leicestershire schools and colleges to work with groups of young people (years 9/10 onwards), with particular emphasis on reaching widening participation students. School and College students will undertake a 6 week intervention with the possibility of continuing sport participation through the creation of an after school satellite club within school, run by Leicestershire and Rutland Sport. Priority sports have been identified by schools which are part of the Leicestershire & Rutland PE & School Sport Champion Group. These are: Volleyball, Basketball, Cheerleading/Dance, Fitness, Badminton, Cricket, Hockey and Handball.
