As part of Reach Disability, project lead NNCO Disability Officer Leanne Herbert visited Wyggeston and Queen Elizabeth College in March with the Reach Mental Health Roadshow.
Leanne along with DMU Student Ambassadors, hosted lunchtime activities that challenge mental health stigma and promote support available for students in Higher Education with mental health conditions.
They spoke with 141 students over two lunchtimes, giving them the opportunity to make pledges to get involved in activities that have a positive effect on their mental and emotional wellbeing.
Of the 141 students they spoke to, 71% said that they would feel comfortable to tell a university that they had a mental health condition in the knowledge that support is available. The aim is to increase this number by helping young people to understand what support is available to them in Higher Education.
