The organisations below have a long history of working to provide support for young carers as well as guiding staff who advise them on a daily basis. The provision on offer can help with identifying and referring suspected young carers, as well as with signposting additional ways in which you may be able to raise awareness of the cohort in your own setting.

 

Charities & Helplines

 Group  Website  Description
 Barnardo’s  Barnardo’s Work to help support the identification of suspected young carers and, once complete, work with a range of services to coordinate an appropriate support package. Able to provide advice to staff within settings over how to best approach work with this particular cohort.
  Carers Trust  Carers Trust Carers Trust is a major charity for, with and about carers. They work to improve support, services and recognition for anyone living with the challenges of caring, unpaid, for a family member or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or addiction problems.
 Learning and Work Institute  Learning & Work Institute Campaign for the personal, social and economic benefits from lifelong learning and work. Their research shows significant inequalities in who takes part in learning and work, which they seek to tackle by empowering individuals from under-represented groups to take control of their lives and realise their potential.
 Carers Direct Carers Direct Carers UK fights to make things better and fairer for carers. They provide information and advice to carers and people working with carers.
 Carers UK Carers UK Work to help support the identification of suspected young carers and, once complete, work with a range of services to coordinate an appropriate support package. Able to provide advice to staff within settings over how to best approach work with this particular cohort.
 Employers for Carers Employers for Carers This organisation encourages employers to support carers at work.
 National Careers Service National Carers Service A free service offering advice on learning and careers to everyone aged 13 and over. The website has lots of useful information and tools to help you plan your career. You can also have a session with a careers adviser face-to-face, over the phone, by email or through webchat.
 The Children’s Society The Children’s Society The Children’s Society’s ‘Include’ programme works with services to support young carers and young adult carers. It arranges an annual Young Carers Festival and a national network for young carers.
