The three Leicestershire based universities (Loughborough University, University of Leicester and De Montfort University) are advocates for all students having equal opportunities to progress to Higher Education. As a result, each institution has a dedicated team with a remit to carry out work with a range of disadvantaged cohorts, which includes young carers.
Loughborough University’s School and College Liaison team is made up of 14 dedicated individuals who are passionate about raising the aspirations of all students. The team work with schools and colleges across the Midlands and offer a range of in school, on campus, and online interventions designed to break down barriers to Higher Education and help the students that they meet realise their ambitions.
The team have a variety of resources available to support those who work with students on a daily basis including teachers, careers staff and parents. They believe strongly that education should be an inclusive environment and, therefore, have also launched online support for those who work with and advise students who face additional barriers to progression.
For an overview of some of the interventions on offer, please review the PDF documents below. Alternatively, you can contact the team directly via email on email@example.com and they will be happy to discuss your requirements.
Universities such as DMU have a major responsibility to contribute to society through their public engagement and to bring about positive change for the public good.
At the centre of DMU’s engagement strategy is our award-winning Square Mile programme. Launched in 2011, Square Mile uses DMU’s academic expertise and a network of student volunteers to offer potentially life-changing services in the Leicester community.
A large number of Square Mile projects have been created to offer free support to primary and secondary schools through a range of different areas including mentoring in maths, English and science, speech therapy support, sports activities and IT training for parents and children.

Every year the University of Leicester welcomes thousands of children, young people, parents, carers and teachers onto campus for activities designed to promote higher education and its potential benefits.
We proactively visit local schools and colleges to help teachers raise aspirations of young children and prepare older pupils for applying to universities in the near future. We have a broad range of enrichment activities and information sessions available for year 6 pupils through to year 13. This includes: general outreach activities aimed at raising the aspirations of students, academic subject specific activities such as languages, pathways to medicine, law and engineering, and employability skills based activities.
